4K isn’t just a resolution: what exactly does it mean?

If you look, the aspect ratio Portrait 1440 21:9 4K is sometimes considered considering its horizontal 3440 pixels, but that’s just confusing, especially since it doesn’t even come close. pixel density of other resolutions normally attributed to 4K.
