A Steam Deck update is coming that includes various FFXIV fixes and compatibility layer fixes for fan-favorite games. Proton 7.0-4, available to beta users now, should help improve Square Enix’s MMORPG on the gaming laptop, meaning you’ll encounter fewer Hydaelyn hiccups and finicky interface shenanigans.
According to Valve, Proton 7.0-4 has several useful tweaks for Steam Deck FFXIV, including automatic on-screen keyboard support when using the launcher. Also, there is now a fix for launcher update issues that should prevent players from automatically loading from the game when there is not enough storage space.
Final Fantasy XIV isn’t the only game supported, as are favorites like Monster Hunter Rise and Sid Meier’s Civilization IV. The update even fixes some Call of Duty: Black Ops II quirks as it will help prevent FPS gameplay from crashing after multiplayer matches.
If you want to try the latest version of the compatibility layer, just activate the “beta branch” of the game of your choice. To enable it in the Steam Deck, click the “Options” button on the selected game and select “Properties”. Once you have logged in, you will be able to select “Proton 7.0-4” from the beta menu.
It’s ongoing in terms of Steam Deck updates and fixes, and compatibility isn’t the only item on Valve’s agenda. The giant storefront recently made a number of changes to its portable operating system, with the redesign improving the Steam Deck docking experience and adding a temperature warning. You know, for those who play in the fridge or in the oven.
The Steam Deck has also physically improved since its debut earlier this year, as the sleek device now features improved touch-and-click buttons. So if you’re still waiting for your deck to arrive, you’ll most likely be getting an upgraded version of Valve’s handheld, and current orders should arrive even before the end of 2022.
