It took a few days to wait for the first Digimon Survive reviews, as Bandai Namco apparently distributed the review codes later than expected. Often when a publisher delivers copies for print late, there is concern about the quality of the game, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Digimon Survive currently has an average positive rating of 80 on Nintendo Switch and 78 on PS4. User ratings, which are generally more critical of the press, are also good, averaging 79 and 75 on Switch and PS4, respectively.

The Dexerto portal gave the game a score of 80, saying that “it’s not a perfect experience at all, but it’s an exciting and unique Digimon game. There are more endings to see, different evolutions to discover and more than 100 Digimon to recruit, replay value and the value of the content is excellent … Due to its text-rich nature, this game won’t be for everyone and those expecting more action may be disappointed. Visual novel fans will appreciate many aspects, however, and Digimon Survive may be a great choice if you’re looking for a darker story set in the Digimon universe.”

The editors of PlayStation LyfeStyle, which scored 70, were less enthusiastic: “The story explores a darker reinterpretation of the original series, despite some irresistible characters, and the combat system is moderately well executed despite being mechanically simple. Even the style. Art and composer Tomoki Miyoshi and artist The soundtrack by Uichi Ukumo stands out. However, many plots take too long, the Karma system is struggling, and the UI is poor. Developer Hyde came up with a good idea with Digimon Survive, but maybe not enough to deserve a sequel.”

Digimon Survive is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC starting July 29. Are you playing with it? What impressions did you leave? Let us know in the comments.
