The Red Dead Redemption 2 bug stealing the world of NPCs and wildlife seems to be taking its toll on PC gamers, serving as the perfect metaphor for the state of Red Dead Online having recently been abandoned by Rockstar so the studio could focus its resources. in GTA 6.
Players reported the issue on various Red Dead Online PC servers, sharing screenshots of deserted streets in Saint-Denis and empty barns in Emerald Ranch. Players have even reported animal spawning not working, leaving everyone in Red Dead lifeless except for lonely and confused players driving around the skeletal remains of the once-quirky sandbox shooter.
It’s very scary. I feel like I’m looking at a dark and inevitable future for Red Dead Redemption 2, where the only visible life will be the stubborn players who grow old and refuse to stop and make way for the future. It’ll be like a tumbleweed, a little farm in New Austin. In RDR2 it is bustling and prosperous, but in the first Red Dead Redemption its economy was destroyed by the new railway and it became a ghost town. Wait a year and that’s all there will be to Red Dead Online – some of us are dedicated veterans, complaining that “it wasn’t always like this.”
“Yesterday,” said one player, “[I saw] the car was alone without a driver and there was no one on the streets. It was a bit creepy.” “Secret August 1 update,” jokes another player. “We removed the NPCs to focus more on GTA 6.” “Welcome to Red DEAD Redemption,” a third fan wrote. “Prepare to survive.”
The error certainly gives an accurate indication of the current state of the game. As Rockstar enters full development on GTA 6, which will presumably take place in Vice City and release around 2024, it literally looks like the end of Red Dead Online.
