Healing and stamina have been hot topics in League of Legends lately, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change any time soon. Riot Games has released a new blog post explaining its healing philosophy in League of Legends, looking at some of the current pain points and hinting that more healing tweaks will come in a future LoL patch, specifically involving the Grievous Wounds debuff.
Lead Designer for the League of Legends Balance Team, Matt ‘Riot Phroxzon’ Leung-Harrison, wrote this new blog post behind the LoL 12.14 patch. community.
Phroxzon tries to sum up Riot’s take on healing in League by saying that “satisfying healing mechanics are often frustrating to play against opponents.” He also explains how Riot divides champions with healing abilities into two groups: “occasional healers” whose healing abilities are only part of a larger group, like Ahri, and “basic healers”. like Aatrox, who are champions with every identity and every kit. It is built around healing.
You can read all of Phroxzon’s thoughts on this in his full blog post here, but the real meaty info players really want to pay attention to is his plans to replace Grievous Wounds.
“Our goal is to best balance Grievous Wounds when there are more than two heavy healers on the enemy team that work well enough,” says Phroxzon. “Given the complexity of item-based decision making, this calculation may vary within the game (e.g. if the healing composition changes, it might be better to just optimize the explosion and d ‘try to finish the game quickly), but it should be a good overall rule to start with.
These changes to Grievous Wounds will arrive in patch 12.14, similar to the other “Extraordinary Healing Cases”.
12.14 has already had a huge impact on healing, and with it arriving so soon after the big stamina update of 12.10, League of Legends has seen a real game-changer in recent months and our best list of LoL champions struggled to keep up…
