Mojang Says Minecraft Chat Reporting Features Remain

The chat moderation and reporting features in Minecraft were first announced last month and were quickly denounced by the community as not being up to snuff. Despite some criticism and arguments against the tools, Mojang said they would use them as-is.

Reddit community manager MojangMeesh posted a message explaining the decision. “We appreciate and appreciate your feedback, but that doesn’t mean it will always change the design principles Mojang Studios is committed to, that includes the upcoming reporting system.” While this comment itself may seem prickly, the second paragraph of the comment indicates that some players comment whenever a Mojang employee complains about the system. Harassment is wrong, which, ironically, is the main purpose of the complaint.

Many players responded to this comment saying that they didn’t feel like they were being listened to. For them, each of their Minecraft servers is a kind of safe haven and they shouldn’t be moderated if they don’t want to be. So there are several ways to remove these features from your own server using Spigot or the CurseForge mod.

Ultimately, if there are no complaints or discussions about changing features, players are understandably frustrated. Many people have been playing this game for over a decade and as adults they feel that they should not be tracked. However, it is also important to remember that Minecraft is a game that has many young players, so it is necessary to have safety features in place to protect them from harm. However, it doesn’t look like things are going to change any time soon.

In other Minecraft news and certainly more kid friendly, have you seen the new Spongebob Squarepants DLC? It’s a great opportunity to wander around Bikini Bottom and soak up some nostalgia.
