Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Delayed Indefinitely

It’s one of the best games in the Star Wars universe, so when it was confirmed last year that a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic RPG remake was on the way, many fans were thrown out of their seats. But now it turns out that the whole project is accompanied by problems that Bloomberg pointed out.

According to journalist Jason Schreier, the project is currently (apparently only temporarily) on hold, with completion indefinitely delayed. In July, Aspyr Media, which created the remake, unexpectedly fired two important developers – the art director and the design director. They, for example, control the quality of the game’s graphics or mechanics used, but are usually also involved in all of its creation. These are key people whose departure means a lot of trouble.

The layoffs came after Lucasfilm Games and Sony executives saw previews of the remake. Obviously, management has not been satisfied with either this or how much time and money has gone into development so far, adds Bloomberg. According to him, the remake will most likely be released no earlier than 2025, although it was originally supposed to be the end of this year.

Originally created by BioWare and published by LucasArts, the game is almost twenty years old and deserves a new cover. “We are restoring it from the ground up using the latest technology to live up to the amazing standards of the original and the innovations incorporated into it. At the same time, we remain true to the story we respect,” said remake creator Ryan Treadwell last year.

Aspyr himself has not yet commented on the information and has not given any dates. However, one of the aforementioned developer couple confirmed his departure from the company on his LinkedIn profile. The remake was officially announced last September as a limited-time console exclusive for Playstation 5 and PC.
