The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Slows Again

In 2019, the German company Daedalic Entertainment announced that it was preparing a game adaptation of Gollum, a famous character from the world of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The game with the uncomplicated name The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was supposed to be released in two years, but in the end was postponed to this year. A few months ago, we found out the release date, which already fell on September 1st. But as the deadline approached, it became more and more suspicious that the developers weren’t in a big hurry when it came to gameplay footage. And when they finally arrived at the Nacon Connect event, the players clearly weren’t thrilled. However, the developers seem to have taken the comments to heart. On Monday, they announced on social media in a press release that they were postponing the game:

First of all, we would like to thank you for your patience and support. Our team has been hard at work over the past few years to bring you an interesting story set in a breathtaking world full of wonder and magic.

We want to live up to our community’s expectations and unravel Gollum’s untold story in a way that is in line with J. R. R. Tolkien’s vision.

But at the same time, to deliver the best possible experience, we have decided to delay the release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum by a few months. We will inform you about the exact date as soon as possible.

We are grateful to our passionate community and can’t wait to share this unique adventure with you soon.

The developers have definitely chosen to be very careful with their statements as they have not given exact reasons or a new release date. This could potentially mean a longer delay than just a few months, as indicated in the report. But we will have to wait for the next official report, for now we can only guess.

Target platforms are still defined, nothing should change on them. The game will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
