The Last of Us remake really looks like a giraffe

Whenever you talk to someone about the experience of playing The Last of Us Part 1, they always talk about the giraffe. This touching moment has been etched in the memory of many fans, and in the upcoming remake, Naughty Dog will give fans the chance to not only see but also smell the giraffe.

The game’s upcoming haptic feedback was featured in Naughty Dog’s recent features and in-depth game review that shows just how thoroughly the game has been remade for the PlayStation 5. What you’ve been waiting for, the game director said Matthew Gallant. This includes everything from jumping, landing, shooting, and weapon customization. However, the haptics were also created for the quieter moments that we all start to remember.

“What I personally love is that we can really enhance the quiet, subtle moments in the game, like Joel loves the giraffe,” Gallant says. Fans will apparently feel a slight touch – “the essence of The Last of Us”, as Gallant calls it, as Joel adds another dimension to the game’s story by gently patting the giraffe’s neck.

“It’s about involving you in the story in every way possible,” says Gallant, “and that’s exactly what the new technology in the PS5 has made possible.”

Of course, haptic feedback isn’t the only thing that comes with the remake. Leveraging advanced console technology, The Last of Us remake will come with 3D audio, more accessibility options, an improved photo mode, and more options to unlock.

It also comes with a speed mode so players can time their progress through the game. A permadeath feature will also be available for those who wish to complete it without dying.

As you can see from the trailer above, it’s an impressive remake that stays true to the original. While the developers have defended the game against “cash grabs” claims, which are broadly equivalent to Naughty Dog due to the game’s high price tag, there’s no denying that The Last of Us Part 1 Remake lets you experience the game in a completely different way.

Who knows, it might even make our list of the best PS5 games when it releases in September.
