Diablo Immortal has generated quite a bit of buzz and controversy, beginning shortly after its release on June 2 with questions about monetization and continuing with fan withdrawals, bugs, and then compensation offered by Blizzard in response to those bugs. But some fans are more RPG-friendly: despite the problems so far, they describe Diablo Immortal as “the perfect game” for casual gamers.

In a Reddit thread, fans discuss how Diablo Immortal works best by ignoring some of its deeper monetized mechanics and enjoying it for daily entertainment only.

“I think Blizzard has created the perfect casual game without even knowing it,” writes one player, DreadBladee. “Monetization-wise, it’s a mess to say the least, but it actually saves me money. Knowing that being a dolphin is basically useless and that I will never play a game, I just drop a few bucks on the battle pass and rejoice. [sic] with lots of little rewards and cosmetics.

“I used to hate Immortal when it came out,” they continue, “but now I just hate the monetization, which doesn’t bother me anyway, so now I have it as the perfect game for my casual games.” soul.”

Other gamers respond by describing that, for them, Diablo Immortal is more suited to casual single-player gameplay, without the use of heavier MMORPG-style systems.

“During the week, you can play just 30 minutes and feel like it was worth it,” writes stdTrancr. “Other MMORPGs take at least two hours to progress.”

There are also fans who say Immortal is the perfect game for gamers who remember and grew up on classics like Diablo 2.

“For people who grew up on D2 and are now looking for careers and fatherhood, this game is perfect,” writes Reddit user feldor. “Even the time control and paid access are excellent, in my opinion. If being away for a few days due to work and family set me back in an impossible way, then I wouldn’t play at all. If I have a difficult day, I can do the bare minimum and move on.”

So maybe Diablo Immortal has always been good, we just missed the point. In any case, many players remain unhappy, especially with the game’s event schedule.
