Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Definitive Edition is due out in November 2021, as you may have heard. But it was really just a bait, a prank, a look-alike created as part of a sinister government experiment to test the resistance of human eyeballs to the ill effects of rain and water, and the definitive royal edition has just been released. as a free mod. available. to download now.
Just kidding, of course, but GTA San Andreas HD Optimized Textures, as it’s officially called, by modder flyaway888 does a much better job of scaling and sprucing up Rockstar’s classic 2004 sandbox than Grove Street Games’ official version. The game remains intact – this is a mod for the original San Andreas, not the final version, so it plays like it always did in the days of PS2 and Xbox, but everything else has been cleaned, honed and polished to shine . detail.
The decals on CJ’s shirts and boots, as well as the store signs, are now truly legible, and the stonework and pavement are covered in dents, scratches, and cracks. Cars are crisp and clean, window reflections look more believable, and pedestrians have more distinct faces and expressions. The skies are clearer and the draw distance seems to have increased as well, so if you walk through Red County you can look out to the horizon and see Mount Chiliad.
It’s a far cry from the more compact, darker aesthetic of the official Definitive Edition, and of course it retains the effects of weather and cloud cover, so rain still looks good, and there’s not this bug where you can see without finish. World. Basically, it’s a solid way to give the game a modern feel without sacrificing its original content or charm – the perfect add-on if you’re looking to improve San Andreas without changing it outright.
You can download San Andreas Optimized Textures on Mod DB. Its distant relative Red Dead Redemption 2 has also gotten some mod love in the form of dynamic seasons and weather.
