French politician Damien Rieu and two intelligence agencies are wrongfully linked Hideo Kojima with the assassination of the former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe. He was attacked during a public speech by 41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami. The former Japan Self-Defense Forces soldier fired twice and died hours after attacking the politician.

Far right French politician Damien Ryo but he took it seriously and tweeted a photo of Kojima with the text that the ultra-left would kill. This was then noticed by the Greek and Iranian intelligence agencies, who used the photographs in their reports of the assassination. This led to photos of Kojima appearing on a Greek TV show about the assassination of the former Japanese prime minister.

“I naively took the joke as information. I didn’t think he could joke about a person’s death, but I was wrong not to check before sharing. I apologize to Hideo Kojima and the Metal Gear fans.” the politician wrote on the social network Twitter on Friday.
Kojima Productions has strongly condemned the spread of fake news and rumors. “We do not tolerate such slander and will consider legal action in some cases,” company added.
