The Halo Infinite prequel will be released in August, which should explain some of the events that happened six months before Master Chief woke up and came to Zeta Halo, but it’s not new Halo Infinite DLC for an FPS game, and fans are upset and confused by this.
Halo: The Rubicon Protocol is actually a new Halo novel by author Kelly Gay, who wrote the Rion Forge/Ace of Spades Halo books, and is the first official Halo Infinite tie-in story. It explains what happens to the Spartans in Zeta Halo and delves into the exile invasion before the Master Chief is revived. It launches on August 9 and you can preview it here.
interesting stuff, but annoying fans as good as even confused that such a vital story be left as a companion novel and not campaign DLC. The Halo Infinite campaign explains what happened in those six months with just audio recordings, and it felt like a natural addition. While the co-op campaign is ongoing, no additional story DLC has been announced for the Halo Infinite single-player game.
While the story could be great, Halo Infinite’s lack of campaign DLC and growing dissatisfaction with the multiplayer side are issues that need to be addressed, especially given the breadth of story left open. Also, the use of the word “witness” in the official tweet, combined with the fact that it doesn’t mention that Halo: The Rubicon Protocol is a novel, could explain the confusion.
Kelly Gay is amazing but this story needs to be used and written for a dlc/expansion for Halo Infinite.

However, if you want to know what happened in Zeta Halo before the events of Halo Infinite, The Rubicon Protocol will be released on August 9.
This isn’t the only captivating-sounding novel coming out this year. The veteran Star Wars author’s Dark Souls novel is out now, and the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight prequel novel released in November.
