The Nvidia RTX 4000 release date could be further delayed due to the oversupply of RTX 3000 graphics cards currently flooding the used market, in addition to those yet to be carried by card partners and retailers. The company has already tried to scale back production of its upcoming GPU chips, but it looks like the release of Team Green’s best graphics card could prove to be a bad deal for everyone involved.
Sources close to YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead say that the bulk of the RTX 4000 GPU shipments “were supposed to arrive in October, but may now be delayed until December.” That’s not to say that Nvidia won’t announce and release cards like the RTX 4090 until then, but you might have a hard time getting your hands on one sooner.
For now, the most pressing concerns for retailers appear to be inventory of RTX 3000 cards, which they are “desperate to move” as concerns mount that graphics cards cannot be sold for profit. The sheer number of current-gen GeForce GPUs entering the used market following the recent crypto crash is driving prices down, which naturally has a ripple effect on the demand that retailers see.
It’s unclear how long Nvidia can hold off the RTX 4000, as the company is understandably reluctant to give AMD’s RDNA 3 graphics cards an edge if it can help. In the meantime, the next few months could be the best time to get a cheap gaming PC upgrade, as price drops show no signs of slowing down.
