Can you believe Rocket League will be seven years old this year? It seems like it was only yesterday that rocket-powered cars hit the PlayStation Store for the first time, driving people crazy. The game has changed a lot since then, and to celebrate the innovation, Psyonix presents two party-themed limited-time events, a host of challenges and rewards – Credits, the game’s first premium currency.
The Birthday Ball kicks off with the temporary 2v2 Heatseeker event, the day before its big birthday on July 6. The fan-favorite sends the ball flying towards an enemy target every time you hit it, creating a high-stakes game that will have you crushing the ranks of Rocket League. This mode will only be available until July 13 and will be replaced by Knockout, a brutal ballless game mode.
Both modes are complemented by Birthday Ball event challenges that allow players to earn up to 300 credits as rewards. These credits will be distributed as in-game rewards for the first time, allowing those who have escaped the Battle Pass and the Store to receive new cosmetic items.
Other challenges reward players with the Golden Goat title, Precious Metal avatar frame, and Golden Egg. The Golden Eggs don’t sound very exciting, but given that they unlocked Championship Series 1-4 items, you might want to collect as many items as possible.
And that’s not all; Psyonix is also spoiling us with birthday-themed items. Fennec, one of the best cars in Rocket League, will be getting a titanium white finish and a fancy official decal, while the Spyder Anniversary Edition wheels and top hat will be spinning in the Item Shop all week.
The Birthday Ball is live July 6-19.
