On June 30, Minecraft streamer and YouTuber Alex, also known as Technoblade, died of cancer at the age of 23. Praise poured in, including from developer Mojang, who also added a more subtle but sweet monument to the streamer in Minecraft.
As one Fortnite leader noted Santa Claus ‘iFireMonkey’ Ricky and posted on Twitter, the Minecraft launcher header image has changed slightly since Technoblade’s sad demise on Thursday. There has always been a pig in the top right corner of the launcher image, but now the pig is wearing a crown, which has been Technoblade’s avatar both in Minecraft and elsewhere on the web.
Technoblade has been streaming Minecraft since around 2013 and is well known in PvP tournaments and competitions for videos including how to beat Minecraft with a wheel controller.

Mojang also posted a more direct message on the Minecraft account expressing how “heartbroken” the team is over Technoblade’s passing.
We try to find words, but we are all heartbroken here in Minecraft at the loss of Technoblade. He meant so much to our community and brought so much joy. He will be greatly missed. 🐷👑🗡️
