Call of Duty Warzone’s Battle Pass weapons have a pretty good track record, but few have taken it on like the Marco 5 SMG in recent history. The introduction of Warzone Season 4 and Marco 5 was less than a week ago, but the versatile submachine gun has already become a key part of the current Warzone meta.
According to WZRanked weapon usage stats, the Marco 5 has surpassed the MP40 and is currently the most used SMG in Warzone. Frame 5 appears to represent just under 8% of player load drops. This also makes it the second most popular weapon in the entire game, beaten only by the NZ-41, which became the primary long-range AR at the start of Season 4.
So why are so many players crafting Marco 5 Warzone gear to kill at close range on the Caldera or the new Fortune’s Keep map? There are several reasons.
For starters, Marco 5 unlocks at level 15 in the Season 4 Battle Pass, a lot of players already have it. But we always get an easy to unlock weapon every season, so what makes this weapon so popular right away?
Thanks to his Akimbo ability, he has the ability to carry two weapons. Akimbo pistols tend to go a little overboard (remember the Sykovs, right?) and the Marco 5 is no different.
While it’s nice to have two, the Marco 5 is just as powerful when you have one. Thanks to the high base movement speed and the latest upgrade of Vanguard accessories that make you an Olympic runner, you can move around the map at incredible speeds.
It is clear that these advantages are also reflected in the results. Data from WZRanked shows the Marco 5 to be the fourth and fifth best weapon in terms of overall K/D ratio and win rate, respectively.
The Marco 5 might be one of the best Warzone guns available, but Raven Software has recently made a habit of fighting overpowered weapons faster than before. Expect some sort of nerf to the insanely fast SMG and trusty NZ-41 in the near future.
