Two displays in a small package. That’s how Asus envisioned the future of premium laptops years ago, and this year it’s proving that it’s getting closer to perfection. Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED shows what a second screen should look like in a laptop.

Zenbooks have always been something special. Whether it’s impeccable workmanship, small dimensions or original features. For example, the touchpad that turned into a numeric keypad with one click, or the minimal bezels around the display before this trend. This year it’s the arrival of OLED panels, and combined with dual displays, it’s a machine you’ll want to take with you wherever you go.

The Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED we’re unveiling today is the latest addition to the Duo family of devices. They have a second screen in the area where the keyboard is. Of course, the user has not lost the hardware buttons, because they are moved closer to the bottom edge and there is also a touchpad there.

The laptop has a 14.5-inch display with a resolution of 2.8K and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It is of the OLED type and boasts 100% DCI-P3 color space coverage, 550 nits of brightness, and a 0.2ms response time. OLED technology delivers uncompromising contrast while black pixels are completely turned off. You won’t be bothered by light, glowing black stripes on film, and you can count on accurate, true-to-life colors when working with graphics.

The display has an aspect ratio of 16:10, which makes it clear that it is aimed at performance. But don’t be fooled, you can also play on your laptop, especially on a more powerful spec with the RTX 3050 Ti. On a 120Hz display, you’ll have less, and moderately demanding games will be completely smooth. Performance is complemented by a Core i9-12900H processor and up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM at 4800MHz. We should not forget about the 2 TB SSD connected via fast PCIe 4.0.

However, the main attraction of the laptop is not the characteristics of the internal components, but especially the second ScreenPad Plus display. This is a 12.7-inch IPS type screen that connects to the main display. Asus opted for IPS technology for this panel, but with wide viewing angles, a matte finish, and 500 nits of brightness, it outperforms a mainstream OLED display.

The ScreenPad Plus is a touchscreen, and so is the main display. Asus has equipped this display with a number of software features. For example, practical controls for Photoshop and other Adobe programs or any window can be placed on the bottom bar. In practice, this is an improved second screen, and there is no limit to the imagination when using it. You can play on the main display and leave help, Discord or video stream open at the bottom.

The main use of the two displays is just any kind of multitasking. With ScreenPad Plus, you always have an overview and don’t need to lug around extra equipment like a monitor, cables, and adapters. In addition, the cooling system also benefits from the whole concept. Where a keyboard would have taken the place of fans, there is now a thin yet durable display with a slanted design. When open, the laptop mechanism creates a gap between the display and fans, helping to cool components more efficiently and silently.

At the same time, tilting the ScreenPad Plus rotates the screen towards the user for a better viewing angle. As a result, the gap between the displays is erased and the entire screen system creates a trace impression.

Asus has included “not only two” great displays in the premium laptop, but also a range of ports. On the back, there are two Thunderbolt 4 connectors, USB-A, a micro SD card reader, or full HDMI 2.1. We should also mention Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. A Windows Hello-enabled webcam takes care of logging in, while Dolby Atmos-enabled Harman/Kardon speakers play your videos perfectly.

On the road, you will be supported by 76 Wh batteries and, most importantly, the entire laptop weighs only 1.7 kilograms. Two displays, above-average connectivity and high performance are no longer the preserve of heavy and large laptops. The Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED shows that even the smallest body can hide the king of performance. A laptop that is simply exceptional.
