Cyberpunk 2077 was heavily criticized when it was released in 2020 for having numerous bugs and issues. But a new leak from an alleged whistleblower suggests developer CD Projekt Red may not be the only culprit, as he was duped by quality assurance firm Quantic Labs.

In a video posted by Upper Echelon Gamers and originally published by Forbes, an anonymous whistleblower who contacted Upper Echelon directly shares a 72-page document revealing how Quantic Labs, which previously provided QA services for games like Wreckfest, and owns CDPR. The Witcher 3 made false claims about the size of the QA team working on Cyberpunk 2077 and created a quota system that encouraged employees to focus on trivial bugs rather than major ones.

Upper Echelon says it received workflow diagrams, production charts, and spreadsheets documenting labor productivity that were created at Quantic Labs sometime in 2019, when CDPR was first approached to work on Cyberpunk, and 2020.

Whistleblower reveals how, at FQ 2019, Quantic Labs initially met with CDPR, who wanted to use third-party QA services after working on The Witcher 3. According to the whistleblower report, CDPR believed that the Cyberpunk team should have been formed by quality control. industries that worked on The Witcher, when in fact Quantic Labs appointed junior staff, some with less than a year’s experience, to oversee quality control for the sci-fi RPG.

After the contract was awarded, Quantic Labs allegedly created an internal quota system to motivate testers, with the expectation that each tester would find and report at least ten bugs per day. This led testers to look for small visual and performance issues rather than larger bugs because they were easier to spot and contributed to their daily total faster, the source said. It is claimed that CDPR ended up overwhelmed by these minor issues and redirected Quantic Labs to focus on larger Cyberpunk issues.

In response, in the summer of 2020, Quantic increased the size of its Cyberpunk QA team from 30 to 60 testers. However, most of these new testers were apparently newbies who had completed two to four weeks of introductory training or other training while actively working on the game. The whistleblower claims that Quantic Labs also made false claims about the size of the testing team. of quality that works in Cyberpunk. 2077, exaggerating the number of testers involved in the project in 2019 and 2020.

We’ve reached out to CD Projekt Red and Quantic Labs for comment on this story and will provide updates as they become available.
