Dyson Sphere enemies look like a thick black mist

Things have been pretty quiet so far in the Dyson Sphere Program, a city-building game about building superstructures that harvest energy from the stars. But in the not too distant future, the enemies of the Dyson Sphere will appear and take the form of a black mist that will engulf entire planets, always searching for more energy.

Developer Youthcat Studio says that the enemy faction they are currently working on is known as the Dark Fog. Ultimately, Dark Mist is a branch of the same self-replicating AI that your mechs and colonies are connected to, and once helped fuel CentreBrain’s resources, just as you did.

However, over time, CentreBrain began to notice abnormal behavior in some of its drones. They uploaded corrupted data to a central database, and some even uploaded the equivalent of the virus, data that the CentreBrain processes attempted to hijack. At first, mankind’s scientists blamed common mistakes, but as players will discover, enough machinery intervened to eventually trigger an uprising.

Defeating Dark Mist will be a new quest for players in the Dyson Sphere program when it hits orbitals.

According to the latest Steam article, Dark Mist works from the core on all systems where it’s active, and destroying the large Tinder ball at one end of this structure will disable it. However, Dark Fog will also be able to build bases on the surface of planets, which he will use to collect raw materials for his drone armies.

Once the battle system is available in the Dyson Sphere software, players will be able to turn it off if they prefer a calm, “vanilla” experience. Youthcat has yet to announce when the system will be on the Dyson Sphere show, but it’s sure to keep things interesting when it does. The study says that it will have more information soon and we will be interested in learning more about the units (and their product lines) that we can build to counter this new threat.
