You can take care of a grizzly bear, a zebra, or maybe an orangutan. However, a new animal has been added to the construction game Planet Zoo, which is very close to the Czech environment and especially to the most visited Czech zoo: Przewalski’s horse. As one of the game’s designers, Kilian Schmitt, confirmed to the editors, the developers from the Frontier Developments studio also investigated the projects of the Prague Zoo related to this ungulate.
The horse is part of a DLC called the Conservation Pack, which is available from Tuesday, June 21st.. The package focuses on endangered species and how zoos are trying to help them. Everything is then projected into the game.
“During our research related to packaging, we learned a lot about the protection history of this animal, including the ongoing project of the Prague Zoo, which releases Przewalski’s horses into the wild,” explains Kilian Schmitt for Zing.cz. “With the Conservation Pack, we try to highlight the importance of zoos that protect and breed endangered species,” he adds.
Credits for release into the wild
In Planet Zoo, this is done so that the player can buy Przewalski’s horses and then build their own enclosure in their garden. Animals should receive high-quality food and experienced caregivers who will feed them and clean up after them. If all goes well, he will make the move that makes the Troy Zoo famous all over the world. “Horses that are well cared for will begin to breed and players will be able to release them into the wild, earning Conservation Credits. They can be used to acquire other rare animals,” adds Schmitt.
“The Przewalski horse has an incredibly inspiring past in the field of conservation, where it was thought to be extinct in the wild, but ended up among an endangered species thanks to ongoing efforts to save it. He fits perfectly into our package,” explains Schmitt, adding that this wild horse is also very popular not only among the players, but also in the development team itself.
The 2019 Planet Zoo game is the spiritual successor to the Zoo Tycoon series that many of us spent way too much time growing up with. Both critics and the players themselves speak of a very pleasant sandbox in this case..
In addition, new content is being added to the computerized “zoo simulation”, be it an Australian or European pack that also includes badgers and lynxes. New Conservation Pack coming to Steam up to 9.99 euros, i.e. 250 crowns.
Ninety years at the Prague Zoo
In addition to the Przewalski’s horse, you’ll also find a Manchurian leopard, a saber-horned rhinoceros, a Siamese gibbon and an axolotl in the package. “All of these animals are critically endangered in the wild and are highly dependent on conservation and breeding programs that preserve their habitat and survival,” adds developer Schmitt. The pack also includes 150 more items, mostly focused on sustainability or education, that can enhance the look of the zoo.
The Przewalski’s horse is the last wild horse breed in the world. The Prague Zoo has been breeding it since the 1930s, and since 1959 has maintained an international stud book. Now the animals are regularly airlifted to their natural habitat in Mongolia. The first transport was organized in 2011.
