The city-building simulator Cities: Skylines has sold more than 12 million

City-building games and PC games have gone hand-in-hand since the 1980s, but gamers’ appetite for the genre is still alive and kicking, as the current best-selling city-building game, Cities: Skylines, who came to the giants, shows . Mark 12 million.

Cities: Skylines has been a huge hit with fans of city management games since its release seven years ago, having capitalized on the general disappointment caused by EA’s 2013 release of SimCity. It only grows thanks to the wide variety of Cities: Skylines mods on sale, as well as the plethora of official DLC released for the game.

This milestone is also likely influenced by the fact that the game was available for just a dollar in the recent Humble Bundle, along with deep discounts offered on various Cities: Skylines add-ons. However, fans of city-building games will be pleased to see that interest in the genre remains strong.

Developer Paradox Interactive celebrated the milestone with a short video thanking players for the game’s success:

The game continues to enjoy widespread support, with the Cities: Skylines Airports expansion featured in the holiday trailer released on January 25th adding plenty of air and ground transportation options for players to add to their sprawling industrial hubs.

If city builders are your thing, we saw more of Laysara: Summit Kingdom at the PC Gaming Show, and train sim Sweet Transit recently got a free demo as part of the Steam Next Fest event.
