Paradox Interactive has released the first Victoria 3 gameplay trailer for its next great historical strategy game. Victoria 3 continues the tradition of a great series focusing on the 19th and early 20th centuries, and all of the growing industry, booming commerce, and political reforms that shaped the era. This latest entry in the cult classic strategy game highlights unlimited replay value and the possibility of player-driven stories.
Starting in 1836, Victory 3 spans a century of history and asks players how they want to lead their chosen nation to better transform its people into a prosperous civilization while keeping everyone fed, happy and content. It’s an era of rapid global industrialization and mass emancipation, and Victoria 3 aims to capture that by building on everything the Paradox team has learned in the twelve years since the release of its predecessor, Victoria II.
The gameplay trailer shown at the PC Gaming Show features sweeping shots of the beautiful European countryside, along with a variety of in-game menus and UI. Unsurprisingly, there’s certainly been an improvement in polish and style over the last decade, with clear influences from Paradox’s other great strategy games like Stellaris and Crusader Kings III, as well as other titles in the genre like Civilization VI. . There are plenty of detailed issues to dig into, cleverly broken down with helpful color coding, which is probably exactly the kind of rich, detailed description fans of the genre are looking for.
Victoria takes a small part of the story and expands it in great depth and detail. Victory 3 is a “deep social simulation” in which each member of your nation has their own beliefs, political preferences and standard of living. As a responsible person, you must ensure that your people are happy and able to prosper through careful economic development, construction of new buildings and industries, and international trade to bring in what you cannot produce yourself.
Victoria 3 will let you play as dozens of Victorian-era nations, “from industrial giants like Great Britain and Prussia to populous giants like Russia and Qing China, or waiting powers like Japan and colonial Canada.” Navigating international politics, you must decide whether to use your advantage at the negotiating table or on the battlefield.
When does Victoria 3 come out?
At the PC Gaming Show, Paradox confirmed that Victoria 3 will be released later this year and is now available to wishlisted players on the Steam store. It’s been a very, very long wait for fans of the series, so the news that the game is almost here will certainly be a welcome one, even if it’s a bit longer before we know an exact date.
