We still don’t know when or if Half-Life 3 will be a real thing. It’s become something of a joke at this point, but if you’re desperate to spend more time in this world, the upcoming Half-Life mod Alyx: Levitation might be just what you’re looking for. Created by Counter-Strike: GO map designer Sean Snelling, animator Corey Laddo, and a team of other volunteers, the mod is revealed to be DLC that begins right after the final events of Half-Life: Alyx.
“The basic premise is that Alyx receives a distress call from two resistance members, Maya and Barry, regarding secret Alliance technology buried in a section of the Quarantine Zone known as Sector X,” Laddo told via PC Gamer. With Russell’s help, Alyx dives deep into Alliance territory to investigate this threat and find Maya and Barry. It’s a completely self-contained Half-Life adventure that uses Alyx’s ending as a springboard for the story.”
The DLC will be around 4-5 hours long and the gameplay shown at the PC Gaming Show looks pretty close to the original game. The story will, of course, feature the infamous G-Man, whose Laddo has gained massive popularity online through animation in a number of memes and other bizarre situations. However, Laddo claims that he decided to go straight for this mod, so he expects to see a more serious G-Man character.
In an extended gameplay segment, Alyx battles crabs and Alliance soldiers in an attempt to hunt down a powerful energy blast. At one point, a walker appears and even a slightly sly reference to Gordan Freeman himself.
