Every Elden Ring boss is central to the RPG, and each one is intricate and well-crafted, so when an update brings an unexpected change to one, fans take notice. At first glance, the Elden Ring 1.04 patch made Morgoth, King Omen weird, with an interesting change to his cutscene.
Morgott is somewhat underrated in the Elden Ring boss list. He’s one of the few people you have to defeat to advance in the open world, but the fact that he’s essentially an upgraded version of Margit’s Fallen Omen means that Morgott often doesn’t get the attention he deserves. So while players immediately noticed the Malenia change in 1.04, what went unnoticed was that Morgoth also received a change, perhaps a more noticeable change as well.
As pointed out by user Razhork on Reddit, in patch 1.04 Morgott had a big change to his intro video. He used to grab his staff, set it on fire and explode, revealing his sword. After the patch, there is no fire and the staff simply falls apart, revealing the sword.
Since Morgott is talking about the “flame of ambition” at this point, it’s especially noteworthy, as you can see below. This may be a deliberate change in lore, as Morgott doesn’t wield fire until the latter half of the battle, and the fact that he does is significant.
Morgott’s cutscene changed in patch 1.04 to Eldenring.
Chances are there will be a lot of little changes hidden in the Elden Ring patches, some welcome, some not, but given the size of the game, it’s no surprise there’s so much time to figure it all out.
If bosses aren’t the real Elden Ring challenge for you, how about a mod that turns an RPG into a survival game? This should make it easier to wait for the expansion.
