Final Fantasy 16 recently received a trailer that not only reveals how action-packed the new JRPG will be, but also has a release date set for summer 2023. However, some fans were a bit confused when the game launch had another one. Considering how comprehensive the content is in FF16’s State of Play gameplay trailer.
In response, Square Enix posted: an update FF16 producer Naoki Yoshida and director Hiroshi Takai describe the extra development time as a requirement for “polishing”, optimizing, and refreshing. Takai notes that even though the game is “fully playable from start to finish”, the developers still have “a lot of challenges to overcome” before the game is ready for release.
Although some fans were disappointed to win the game a little longer out, apparently most fans well received the news and Square Enix gave its development teams time to deliver higher quality products on launch day, especially in light of the gaming industry’s ongoing challenge.
The long development time is likely Square Enix’s response to the final version of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, which saw an average critical response of 72 on Metacritic (at the time of writing). lowest launch sales figures In every version of Final Fantasy.

While reviewers largely ignored the game’s lack of visual brilliance and presentation in order to take advantage of the game’s more immersive gameplay quirks, it seems the general gaming audience wasn’t as impacted. On the other hand, it would have been logical for Square Enix to adjust the release date of Final Fantasy 16 to ensure the success of its flagship series.
Hopefully FF16 is worth the wait for avid fans looking for the latest JRPG fix, but the game is another addition to the list of Square Enix games that won’t be released any time soon. Although a release date for the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake has not been announced and the release date for Kingdom Hearts 4 is still a long way off, it’s no wonder some fans are impatient with the company.
