RPG Producers Deny Fable 4 Scaling Rumors

With no new information on the next installment in the beloved British RPG series, rumors of Fable 4 continue, with the latest accusing it of “cutting off” the project. However, the producer of the new Fable game resists, calling the process “normal, necessary and healthy.”

Although there were previous rumors that Playground Games had to deal with a lack of experience in the genre given that it’s primarily known for the Forza Horizon series, the latest speculation comes from the Xbox News Cast, where co-host Gaz said they have a “source” , who states that “Fable had to be scaled back because the team was having engine trouble.”

Gaz also states that there is “nothing to worry about” but this has been covered in various Reddit threads and posts. Now Fable lead producer Amy Loak has taken to Twitter to allay concerns about the rumor and the idea of downsizing the project, calling it a “normal, necessary and healthy part of game development” and stating that “every AAA game I’ve ever played or touched” has experienced something similar.

The reason for this, according to Loak, is “to ensure that the team is focused on a clear vision and can do it in the time available without committing suicide.” Games that don’t scale consistently are prone to “lags and crashes” that no one wants.

So while the Fable 4 downscaling rumors seem technically correct, it’s just so Playground Games can focus on the game itself and what’s important to completing it. In other words, what literally every project created, including this article, should have done.

This should also be considered a good sign, because while Playground Games is finalizing what to include and what not to include in the fantasy game’s sequel, Fable’s release date announcement might not be as far away as we feared. Don’t forget that the next Xbox demo is just around the corner.
