Daniel Vavra played The Outer Worlds 2. How did he rate the new product from Obsidian?

He has a serious problem with one thing.

Daniel Vavra occasionally comments on various video game news. This time he devoted his time to the sci-fi role-playing game The Outer Worlds 2 from Obsidian Entertainment, which was released at the end of October. after finishing I gave it a rating of 7/10.

Although the co-founder of Warhorse studio was not completely disappointed with the result, in his verdict he emphasized lack of any fresh mechanicswhich could bring something new to the role-playing game genre.

“Done. 7/10. But what saddens me is that the company and people who brought us some of my favorite games (Fallout and New Vegas) have not been able to come up with a single new game mechanic after 15 years, using all of Microsoft’s money and the latest technology to push a proven but outdated formula further.”

Can any of you think of a single new gameplay mechanic in The Outer Worlds that wasn’t already present in Deus Ex or the original Fallout games over 25 years ago? Unfortunately, I can’t remember any.

Give me a living, simulated world! Real nonlinearity! Give me something more than loot boxes, service mines, loading screens and leveling in a static and scripted world.” – Daniel Vavra states in his assessment on the social network X.

In terms of global reception, The Outer Worlds 2 boasts average rating 84% on the aggregator Metacritic and 78% of positive user reviews on Steam. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as on Xbox/PC Game Pass.
