All Elden Ring players can probably name their favorite encounters in FromSoftware’s hit RPG, but now director Hidetaka Miyazaki has weighed in on his favorite Elden Ring bosses. In an interview with Xbox Wire Japan, Miyazaki named Radan’s Starscourge as his favorite boss in the open world game, saying that he also likes it as a standalone character and enjoys the Radan Festival environment.
“It’s literally vacation time,” says Miyazaki (translated by GamesRadar+). Miyazaki recalls that when he first pitched the idea of a festival in which various NPCs from the Elden Ring would gather at Redmayne Castle to face off against the dramatic demigod and his skinny horse, “nobody on the team didn’t take it seriously.” I laughed”. He names his second patron Godric the Grafted and Rickard, Lord of Blasphemy.
Elsewhere in the interview, Miyazaki talks about other sources of inspiration, citing The Elder Scrolls series, The Witcher 3, and Breath of the Wild as some of his most notable open world inspirations. He also responds to an Xbox Wire Japan comment asking if there’s a way to avoid looking at Elden Ring’s “spider hand” nightmarish enemy, saying it’s one of his favorite skins. He simply asks, “Isn’t it possible to defeat him by looking at him and defeating him?”
Miyazaki also references the Ashes of War system, which allows players to modify their weapon skills. He says that Elden Ring emphasizes freedom in many ways and that he hoped to increase players’ freedom to customize weapons to their personal taste. He thinks Ashes of War made customizing Elden Ring weapons more fun.
