Then you will build your empire on a few selected maps (or create your own), in the skin of one of the four factions. You will collect resources, discover artifacts, magic or various improvements, as well as sophisticated skirmishes with local enemies. The nice thing is that you can do all this both in solo and in online or local multiplayer.
