EA Football will no longer be called FIFA

It’s decided. Almost 30 years later, Electronic Arts says goodbye to FIFA. From 2023, the football series will be called EA Sports FC. This confirmed earlier speculation that preceded the statement by the publisher that the FIFA license is unreasonably expensive and restricts developers.

When it comes to content, fans have nothing to worry about. EA officials assure that all popular modes will remain, and the name change will not affect the licenses of players, clubs, stadiums and leagues..

“Everything you love about our games will be part of EA Sports FC – the same amazing experience, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs and athletes.” EA Sports CEO Cam Weber assured. “Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs and Volta Football will not be missing from the game.”

“Our unique licensing portfolio of over 19,000 players, over 700 teams, over 100 stadiums and 30 leagues will become part of EA Sports FC. This includes exclusive partnerships with the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, MLS and other leagues.”

So at first glance, nothing changes. As you might expect, it’s mostly about money. FIFA was demanding more and more money from EA for the license (allegedly twice the amount that should be more than a billion dollars) and, according to the publisher, limited the developers. Compared to this EA Sports FC will be an independent platform for growth and innovation..

All this is in the spirit of previous statements. In February of this year, EA chief Andrew Wilson called FIFA just four letters on the front of the box and an obstacle to the publisher’s ambitions for the series.

However, analysts warn that the name change could lead to a drop in sales. Especially if someone else agrees with FIFA and creates another football game. With this decision, Electronic Arts is losing the name it has been creating in the world of video games for almost 30 years.

This year FIFA with the designation 23 will be the last FIFOU from Electronic Arts. Everyone should be tuned in FIFA 23 was their best feature rich game, game modes and content for world championships, clubs, leagues, competitions and soccer players.

We will hear more about EA Sports FC in July 2023.. Until then, there will likely be speculation about whether this game will be free-to-play when Konami’s eFootball (formerly the PES series) and the UFL embark on this journey.

“Our vision for EA Sports FC is to create the largest and most influential football club in the world, at the epicenter of football fans.” Wilson added. “For almost 30 years, we have been building the largest football community in the world – with hundreds of millions of players, thousands of sports partners and hundreds of leagues, federations and teams. EA Sports FC will be a club for everyone and for football fans around the world.”
