Electronic Arts released a video about eight minutes showing comprehensively Gameplay of the remake dead spaceclearly demonstrates the great work that has gone into making this happen. We’re talking about a complete rework of graphics with updated models, improved textures and environments, and the latest generation lighting system.

The development team also revealed many details about the game by posting on the PlayStation Blog:

Isaac Clarke had to rely entirely on his courage and engineering skills to survive the horrors that lurked on Ishimura. Similarly, Motive’s talented team takes a bold and technically surprising take on the remake of Dead Space, the sci-fi horror masterpiece that sees Clarke on a dangerous mission aboard a cursed spaceship. In addition to the improvements in graphics and performance, it integrates slightly expanded gameplay elements to allow the player to plunge further into the nightmare of the spaceship.

Although I had thoroughly explored the corridors of Ishimura in its original name, my last remake of Episodes 1 to 3 (when Isaac tried to reactivate the tram system and repair the starship’s engines) was full of discoveries. Restructured gameplay surprises, difficult choices, new regions. Let’s get it inside.

New game features

Isaac is fully voiced: This time Isaac speaks. For example, he cries out the names of his comrades when they are in danger or points out Ishimura’s plans to repair his centrifuge and fuel lines. Feeling that the character plays an active role in the team’s mission makes the experience more authentic and cinematic.

Interconnected Immersion: When Isaac boards the Ishimura tram to move quickly between various destinations such as Cargo Hold or Medical Bridge areas, there is no load queue. This is all part of Motive’s goal of creating an immersive and connected environment.

Zero Gravity Freedom: In the original Dead Space, zero gravity segments allow Isaac to jump between platforms with special bots. In the reconstruction there is the possibility of floating in 360° to walk in the void with complete freedom. Additionally, Isaac is now equipped with a very useful propellant to evade Necromorphs emerging from outer space.

Intense New Moments: In Episode 2, Isaac must obtain superior security clearance from the dead captain’s armor. The Captain’s corpse is attacked by an Infector that turns him into a Necromorph. In the 2008 sequence, the actor witnesses transformation in complete safety behind a glass wall. In the remake, Isaac sees the transformation at close range, a scene that brings to mind the Necromorph’s dramatic real-time transformation at the start of Dead Space 2.

Switches: The new junction boxes require Isaac to divert energy between Ishimura’s different functions. In one of the rooms I had to divert energy to a gas station; To do this, I could choose whether to cut off the light or the oxygen supply. Situations like the one just described allow players to choose the less bad one. I preferred the darkness to the risk of drowning.

More Exciting Moments: Brilliant lighting and graphic effects make dramatic moments even more incredible. In Episode 3, Isaac restarts Ishimura’s centrifuge. When the colossal machine wakes up, a combination of overwhelming effects explodes on the screen: the rumble produced by the machine’s gigantic parts and the sparks of shattering metal combine with the shadows of mechanical arms that stand out in front of the orange lights. of auxiliary energy .. A real pleasure for the senses and an even deeper immersion.

Increasing Exploration: Added locked doors and loot boxes to Ishimura, which Isaac can access after obtaining a higher security clearance. This encourages the player to return to already completed areas to find hidden resources and upgrade materials. One of the closed doors even includes a new side quest that reveals more about Isaac’s missing colleague Nicole.

Intensity Director: But don’t let your guard down just because you already know the area. Motive keeps players nervous, thanks to the Intensity Director, which raises the tension with annoying noises like the squeaking of fans, surprises like popping pipes, and of course surprise attacks from Necromorphs.

Expanded Weapon Upgrade Paths: What’s the point of looking for additional resources if there’s no way to invest? New weapon upgrade items can be added to weapons such as the Plasma Knife, Impact Rifle, and more to expand their upgrade paths. Whether this innovation is mechanical to weapons or just damage, reload speed, ammo capacity, etc.

Known but extended functions

Improved Graphics: A rich layer of graphics cleaning has been applied to the entire experience. The atmosphere was enhanced by floating dust particles, a gloomy mist hanging above the ground, dripping blood, and a skinny, cold light.

Small details that enrich the narrative: Isaac does not collect the Plasma Knife, but installs it on a work surface using composite parts; this is a detail that underlines his training as an engineer. Similarly, when Isaac receives the Stasi Module, he first receives the severed limb to which the device is attached. This suggests that the previous owner was smashed to pieces, possibly by a faulty door. These little storytelling details won me over.

Gameplay Test: Combat offers a satisfying sense of familiarity, but more fluidity. Switching the Plasma Blade from vertical to horizontal aiming mode when shooting at a Necromorph’s limbs is a quick and smooth move.

Stasis Strategy: Tackling multiple enemies using slow motion is always great. In one of the fights, I used the Stasi to freeze an enemy near a tank, then waited for another enemy to approach and finally hit the tank to blow up both monsters.

Make your way through power-ups: Workbench remains the most fun way to customize Isaac using hidden knots around Ishimura to customize the character to suit your playstyle. This time I’ve invested in armor upgrades that will increase my Stasis Module’s area of effect to hit multiple enemies at once. Weapon damage, ammo capacity and reload speed can also be increased.

In-universe interface: Dead Space’s projected interface in 2008 was incredibly modern and still remains futuristic. Summoning Isaac’s predicted menu in real time offers the same sense of immersion and immediacy. Also, the 4K menu text and icons are sharper and more readable.

The importance of resources: I know Dead Space very well from 2008 and I admit that I gave a little flair during the game. Initially, I sold some ammo to get credits and make room in the inventory. I paid the price in Chapter 2 when I ran out of ammo in a melee in the morgue and encountered an Infector spawning Necromorphs. This series has forced me to carefully use Stasis and melee for survival. In the end, I survived by using Stasis to slow the Infector’s spawn and stepping into the threat before it got out of control. I reconsidered the idea of ammo storage for the rest of the game.

Bloody Details: Every hit of Isaac’s weapons shreds flesh, muscle, and in some cases breaks bones. The high level of damage detail guarantees not only a disturbing visual impact, but also a precise impact that can be disintegrated or taken down depending on the player’s distance from a Necromorph.

For the rest, read our Dead Space preview if you want to know more. Before we leave, we remind you that the game will be released for PC, Xbox Series X and S and PS5 starting January 27, 2023.
