The global version of Tower of Fantasy has caught up with its Chinese counterpart since its release, with international players using the latter as a touchstone to predict upcoming content. However, the global version’s accelerated release of content means it’s catching up quickly, and the question remains: how well can we expect these two separate versions of the Hotta Studio anime game to perform?
Tower of Fantasy lead designer Skye has confirmed to us that the studio “would like the two versions to be consistent, or ideally just one version”, but the “significant differences” between the two means they will keep the two versions separate. . each other for the foreseeable future.
However, they also stated that “the gap between the two versions is steadily closing”, suggesting that we may in fact be reaching a point where content updates for both versions of Tower of Fantasy will run simultaneously. .
The Chinese version of the Hotta Studio RPG debuted in December 2021, eight months before the worldwide release. Meanwhile, the Chinese version saw major content updates like Faith and Artificial Island months before its global counterpart, as well as the debut of several Tower of Fantasy characters that have yet to appear in the world.
Unsurprisingly, the international community used the Chinese language release roadmap to predict what content they’re most likely to see next, as well as to make informed decisions about which limited-time Tower of Fantasy banners are worth checking out. Of course, the China-exclusive collaboration has slowed things down, as players expect characters to appear that likely won’t due to “copyright barriers.” This collaboration is almost certainly one of the insurmountable differences preventing the global and Chinese versions from merging entirely.
While the simultaneous updates will allow Hotta Studio to throw more hurdles at the community in terms of big reveals and narrative twists, they could also potentially affect the balance of the global release. For now, the Chinese version serves as a useful testing ground for balance, and characters like Claudia had significant changes to their ability stat percentages for their world debuts. If the characters are released at the same time, the global version may see more retroactive changes to their versions.
