A Plague Tale: Requiem on Metacritic at the time of writing average scores 83 and 82 on OpenCritic. However, many reviews are still missing, so these averages may change by a few points over the next few hours.

Overall, international critical reviews award Studio Asobo the title for the quality of the narrative and especially the inspiring artistic direction. Improvements and changes in gameplay compared to the previous episode, as well as graphics and sound quality were also appreciated. However, there are negative notes for poor optimization, especially on consoles where A Plague Tale: Requiem runs at 30fps without a monitor/TV and PC with VRR.

In our review of A Plague Tale: Requiem, Tommaso Pugliese says:

A Plague Tale: Requiem is a gorgeous, gripping, and sometimes heartbreaking sequel. It is an experience characterized by an incredible artistic direction that replaces more peaceful rhythms with frenzied racing, sums up the various characters very well and gives a sense of travel and exploration typical of the best adventures, bringing to life sequences with great visual impact. The stealth game is once again central, but enriched in every aspect, and with the clarity of some nuances it is really difficult to make any criticism. That’s the case here to devote it all to technical optimisation, because sticking to 30fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X seems to us a step back that users will gladly take.
