What do you think is the perfect sequel to an Amnesia-style survival horror game? Bravi is a collaborative wave shooter. Were you thinking of something different? Regardless, that’s what happened to the horror Maid of Sker, a classic shooter whose spiritual heir could not be more classic. At least that’s the outcome Tried by Sker RitualWhere there is much blood, but little fear.
little to do
There demo It is quite limited in content, as it only allows you to play a single map where you have to limit yourself to resist as much as possible the waves of increasing power of the game’s enemies, the Quiet Men. Sker (but there are new entries). In the beginning you will only have to face slower and weaker ones that can hit at close range and are not so dangerous, but wave by wave they will become stronger and more threatening, such as animals or others that are particularly resistant to blows. with diving helmets that will launch fireballs and explode when killed, or others fire bursts of energy. There are also classic bosses, bigger and more resistant enemies.
It should be noted that the amount of enemies is modulated by the number of players deployed in the battle (up to four). Speaking of weapons, at first you’ll only have one gun and a knife, but you’ll be able to buy extra weapons from a counter in the game area by accumulating the coins you get by killing enemies.
After a few waves, miracles or gods will also begin to be obtained. special powersLike poison bombs or fiery projectiles, more or less powerful depending on the rarity of the miracle. Most of these are passive effects related to weapons. Also, other instant bonuses like shields or power-ups can drop from enemy corpses that can be picked up during the action. There are also other distributors around the map that give health bonuses or let you reload ammo and Molotov cocktails.
From fear to adrenaline
The map we tested is very small. We fought in a large room filled with entrances by enemies almost all around its perimeter. Secondly, it did not particularly impress us, because apparentlyartificial intelligence really primitive. In fact, they only attack players by shooting straight, which can be justified by the limited space available. Too bad, even opponents with ranged attacks do the same and often crash into their friends.
In the end, everything becomes a kind of catch-up struggle, but shots, the mainstay of the game, which gives little satisfaction, given its poor feedback on hits inflicted by enemies. In practice, they are simple sponges that absorb more or less bullets and die when their energy runs out. They have localized damage, but that’s it.
Little remains to be said about the Sker Ritual demo, which we found to be rather limited as a whole. Probably some trusted friends to access and play with other content might also make sense, but overall it seemed like an overkill experience. Of course, a demo isn’t enough to make a general judgment, so we’re waiting for the final version because seeing it as a sequel to a horror like Maid of Sker makes a definite impression of a wave shooter, albeit spiritual. Much more than The Quiet Man.
Sker Ritual is a dubious attempt to break into the cooperative shooter genre by a development team specializing in horror. As written in the article, maybe with more content it will make a different impression, but we must be honest in the demo and therefore let us know that it does not surprise us in any way. It’s a classic game where it’s hard to find anything to justify it, as it lacks original elements and has been seen much better elsewhere. We’ll see when it hits the market.
SYMPTOMS
- Atmosphere looks good
- we shoot a lot
- Will a title that seems a little different to say will stand up to fierce competition?
