If there’s one thing wrong with modern electronics, it’s the design that doesn’t allow the user to fix it easily. As iFixit experts report, the portable Steam Deck console is an exception. It only takes a few minutes to access the internal components, but most importantly, most spare parts will soon be available from the DIY store on site.
Are all components available?
Our colleagues recently accidentally added (then deleted) parts from the iFixit store At the border For your information, post a list of the components offered and their mostly cheap prices. The screen is under $100, the controllers are $20 each, and the speaker is $25. Unsurprisingly, the most expensive item is the motherboard at $349. We note the lack of batteries, but these should quickly be put on sale.
Here are the base prices:
- Fans: $24.99
- Display (512GB model): $94.99
- Display (64 or 256 GB model): $64.99
- Right stick: $19.99
- Left stick: $19.99
- Button membrane: $4.99
- Membrane D-Pad: $4.99
- Speaker: $24.99

In the tutorial, iFixit explains that disassembling a portable console only takes a few minutes: you have to remove a few screws on the back and then remove the plastic casing. No glue or other complications like with smartphones. The motherboard can be used immediately like any other component.
