Samurai returns in style.
This year, with a partner, we are spoiling, we also go to the largest game fair.
Last year, The Game Awards Capcom announced the continuation of the Samurai Onimusha series with a subtitle method. The game was first available to the public on Gamescom, so I could try about 20 minutes from the upcoming name.
Actually
At first I have to thank the visual, which captured me at first glance. RE Engine again appears in complete strength, the developers used it for detailed models of characters and media, as well as excellent lighting, which is very important in several gloomy places. But this is not just a technical aspect, and the correct stylization and excellent monster design also play an important role.
Of course, the fight against them is the largest part of the gaming process, and therefore it is good that here is the biggest positive. The feeling of battles was absolutely fantastic, mainly from the incredibly sophisticated and smooth animation of the protagonist (this is Musashi Mijamoto) and his movement with Katana. Every second and a blow look natural and are connected with each other, as in a real battle with a sword, including various turns and other movements of the character. This is one of the most impressive processing of battles with a sword that I once saw in games.
You have a small heavy attack, steam and evidence – at first glance a rather standard arsenal, but you can come up with quite a lot with it. For example, with the correct Parry time you can go with a counterattack and subsequent finish animation when you cut enemies or cut the limbs, look great again. Everything is accompanied by high -quality sound.
Suspicious
Types of enemies, even in a small area, were quite firm. From the most basic ones that attack only close through archers to more aggressive people. But although the battles were extremely interesting and impressive, I was amazed at somewhat simple difficulties. Despite more enemies in some places, I cut myself like an oil knife, and I got to the last battle without any injuries.
But it should be said that the bosses with the enemy with the enemy were already much more demanding. I had to observe his movements, really try to avoid or block attacks, and find a place for a counterattack, and I used almost all healing objects.
In my opinion, this terrible difference is mainly related to the pace of battles. While those who have standard enemies have rather slow, combat battle was much more lively, as if I had played another game. I am not at all against a changing pace, on the contrary. Nevertheless, I would hoped that even classic enemies would be a problem, but this is not so. And although I chose difficulties at the beginning of the demonstration at the beginning of the demonstration.
Another promising name
In the end, however, I have to thank the technical condition, which, as in the case of RE9, is surprisingly, there are problems. The game worked for PlayStation 5 and offered smooth 60 frames per second without obvious downs (albeit with a very aggressive motier, but perhaps it should change) and with very good image quality, which looked great on the big screen. I noticed that the only problems with an alarming pseudonym hair in rollers, but, in addition, the films were very good and excellent.
In general, the new Onimusha was probably the biggest surprise of all the names that I tried in Cologne, only in a positive sense. I still had no experience with the series, but the practical demonstration attracted me to more old episodes and, of course, the way of the sword as such, from which one of the most encouraging titles gradually collides next year.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be released in 2026 on a PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | Sat.
