The Polish developer and publisher of 11 -bit studios were presented in the last decade as the creator of extremely adult and contemplative games. This era began with a military drama dedicated to the tragedies of civilians (this war of mine) continued the brutal fierce strategy of the new ice age (Frostpunk), and the same name continues in the same spirit that changes. On the one hand, the epic and smart strategy for the survival of science fiction with elements of action, but also a very distinctive story, very clearly analyzing the influence on our life, has a different choice in its course. Cut or another, you have not played something like that yet.

Cosmic Robinson

Jan Dolski is an ordinary worker working in mines. But he manages to get between the crew of the spacecraft, heading for (and mining) to a rare raw material to a distant planet. Upon arrival at the site there will be a terrible accident during which everyone else will die except January. Since this is a qualitative story, you will learn over time why it was so unlikely. Meanwhile, you will have more urgent questions and problems. You have a modular mobile base, but you do not have enough crew that can repair it and save it. At the same time, the release of the local sun is approaching, that thanks to its heat and radiation, you do not have the opportunity to survive. The only hope is in some way to bring the base into operation and move it to the planet, trying to contact the ground and cause salvation.

A rare raw material for which the expedition to this planet is called is called Rapidium. He has many unique properties (among other things, his extremely unstable state cannot be included in any kind of known category), and in combination with a quantum computer on board the base will allow John to create a clone of himself, but change this clone to the chosen key event in the past. For example, the decision to leave the house for a remote school can lead to the fact that this version of Jana will not become an employee, but a scientist. Jan gradually closes several of its options that will take the necessary positions, from the doctor to the cooks to the mechanics. But with them it will not be a little easy, not only because of their injury caused by the detection that they are simply “alternative” (alternative) clones, but also because of the fact that each of them has radical different opinions, values ​​and priorities.

A game with a weaker scenario would fail in this first plot, but the authors can completely brilliantly imagine the awakening of each alternation and a subsequent conversation with him absolutely believable and naturally, including shock, distrust or even immediate hatred. Of course, the player affects all this with the help of interactive dialogs. Even, it would seem, insignificant small elections can brutally benefit much later, and this is exactly the way the elections should work in non -linear plot games. Many times I recalled the games of Quantic Dream (Detroit: to become a man). But history also has many other levels: disclosure of the riddle of this planet, corporate plot and potential rescue expedition, trying to correct relations with the former partner (communication from the ground), dealing with the traumatic history of your parents and so on. Fans of strong, smart and moving human stories really enter into themselves. The game can very well transform your own emotions against you, surprise with betrayal and unexpected help and attract even sang songs.

Survival, strategy, action

With a huge emphasis on the dialogues of history and floods, it may seem that this is rather the “film” of adventure, but since we are used to 11 bit studios, the gameplay is as original and characteristic as history. First of all, you have to deal with the main sources, such as air, food or even materials and tools. The game contains an intellectual system of an adjustable minimum where you can indicate how much your Alser should support. The game is divided into days, and you burn any events for hours. Thus, you can go to explore the surrounding landscape to find raw materials or useful ruins of the mother ship. You can conduct interviews and events with alternatives to improve their motivation and relationship. You can prepare, produce or repair the modules and equipment of the bases (but you can do it slower than an alter with this specialization). At the end of the day you are already tired of some kind of work, but before going to bed you can still take part in teamwork with alternatives, perhaps play a unique feature film.

The gameplay is as original and distinctive as history.

The study of the extraterrestrial landscape initially looks relatively innocent, but you will quickly find that strange anomalies began to appear on the surface of the planet. At first, it would seem, the harmless static curvature of the cosmos, and John, among other things, considers whether this is a phenomenon associated with the planet itself and the emergence of Rapidia, or accidentally caused it with its quantum experiments. But the situation begins to deteriorate when the anomaly begins to multiply, move and attack in a different one. Here the game really begins to resemble death, because in the suit you pass through the beautiful abandoned landscape, sometimes (using a special emitter) to fight partially invisible anomalies that grow into growing and more aggressive versions. Even in this regard, the game manages to constantly maintain diversity and originality. In addition to components of survival and actions, a strategy for creating other modules for your mobile base will also be presented, and you must constantly consider their placement and weight in order to avoid other dawn in time with limited fuel ability.

Good, evil and ugly

If you are interested in this story, but you are worried about some aspects of the gameplay, then you will be satisfied with the information that the game contains complexity settings at two levels: you can separately establish the complexity of the passages and especially the complexity of the strategic component of the game. So, if any of these elements is not your strength, and you just want to enjoy history, the game will help you. It also looks very good. The surface of the planet is desert, but it has uncontrollable beauty, especially because you gradually visit various options, from rocky rocks to the desert to something really extraterrestrial and reminded me of the games. Also impressive animations of characters and their faces, which you will evaluate in many sequences of dialogue. The acting of Alex Jordan in the multiple role of several personalities admiration, as well as some musical compositions of the Piotra Musial.

The game is relatively modest in terms of HW requirements. As a minimum requirement, GTX 1060 and recommended RTX 2070. I tried to experiment with the settings of parts and effects, and I found that even with the most modest setup, the game still looks very good and works smoothly even on weaker cards. Unfortunately, she was concerned about other technical problems, at least in recent weeks during the review. From the little things attached to the animation of the characters to serious problems, such as poorly thought out missions, which, in the case of an incorrectly selected order of actions, can prevent a further procedure in the game, which, of course, was not the intention of designers. I want to believe that these problems can be resolved by the creators before the exit, but there were quite a few of them, and forced me to repeatedly reject the watch of the procedure and return to a more old preserved position. Storage of the game is also a problem, because it is automatically at the beginning of each day, which is far from perfect. However, despite these weaknesses, I played the game with one breath thanks to the qualities of its history and an impressive expedition.

Verdict

11 Bit Studios again gave us a game that will attract both an extremely human and deep history, as well as a unique combination of game genres and an impressive audiovisual processing. Unfortunately, during the reviews, I was worried about quite serious technical problems, but I still finished the story of Yana Dolski (one of many possible) in one breath, and I, of course, plan to return for repeated games.
