In Cthulhu: Even Death May Die you have to stop the great rituals.
While Zombicide stories often revolve around fighting evil necromancers or trying to escape from infected places, in Cthulhu: Even Death Can Die you begin a battle for the fate of the world. The player is given ten investigators. But they are not always adults. You have brave men, able-bodied women, and one child at your disposal. However, they all have special abilities that they can use to fight evil that others do not dare to face.
Cthulhu: Even Death May Die confronts them with a duel with two Old Ones. One of those that the cultists will try to summon is Cthulhu. Next to him, you can also go to Hastura. There are six scenarios at your disposal, which offer different levels that you can go to. Other adventures and therefore a set of juices can be found in the chapter “Books of Madness”, and others must be encountered as part of the Cursed Tide storyline. However, the stories are always quite dark, because H.P. Lovecraft certainly never imagined any fun adventures.
The locations you go to are in Cthulhu: Even Death Can Die with less lore than in Zombicide. As such, the experience is much more focused on them, making all the adventures challenging enough that you won’t get bored, and in fact, in the end you won’t even have to decide whether the space is occupied. from several rooms or impressive streets that connect to each other. Individual destinations are often tied to specific conditions and factors. For example, in the first one you’ll have to deal with a flame that spreads everywhere, which can be put out, while other challenges await you, testing how well you can handle the actions at your disposal.
Each hero has a chance to perform a total of three actions during their turn. Movement is fundamental here, as in other games. When you end your turn on a square where a monster is or is already standing there with you, your next move can be an attack, which is traditionally associated with the dice, the roll of which determines whether you will succeed. You can get a trefoil of possibilities. One of them is, of course, success. The second is using a special ability, if you have one. Third, these are tentacles that plunge your hero further and further into the abyss of madness.
If you manage to roll enough dice, the monster will be able to safely fall, and you will be free again. However, if the monster is still standing in your position during its turn, its moment comes, during which it makes a lunge, which you also implement through the dice. As in the case of attacking heroes, monsters can also physically and mentally injure their saps. However, falling into the clutches of madness can have not only a negative effect, since it is also associated with the development of individual character skills. The evolution of the hero is important for your success, since juices are everywhere in abundance and continue to flow.
However, they do not appear out of nowhere, but are closely connected to the Mythos cards. This is the generator of dark events, the arrival of evil forces through portals, and the movement of the Ancient One on his board, along which he travels to his destination. You can only stop him by completing one of the tasks. Maybe you destroy a certain number of workshops, making your main sap a vulnerable creature that can die upon arrival in our world. The adventure in Cthulhu: Even Death May Die ends with your character being killed (winning), falling, or reaching the end of his journey, effectively becoming immortal and ending the world.
There is no victory of the Ancients in Cthulhu: Even Death can die by completing a simple task
For players who are already tired of mowing down soulless zombies in Zombicide, Cthulhu: Even Death Can Die presents a very specific case that will interest the gameplay, the processing of individual components, as well as the theme that the creators of this game focus on, because it is really dense.
So if you’re looking for a true Lovecraftian adventure, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick this one. It’s harder to complete, but encounters with the Ancients simply can’t be easy. The concept is then expanded by the creators over a long period of time, so you can start a truly worthy quest.
