Your task in Dorfromantika is to create a picturesque landscape.

The box that contains Dorfromantik as a whole contains a bunch of tiles for you to work with. In it, you can find both task tiles and landscapes. The game is played in such a way that each player can reach a hexagonal landscape tile or a similarly large piece representing the task of their turn. What’s interesting is that you only have to add task pieces until at least the third turn, and only then do you have a choice.

You can always consult with other players in Dorfromantika about how to place a tile. However, the final choice is up to the player who is currently on the move, which can cause a little difficulty with more dominant teammates. A newly added board, by its own logic, must always follow an existing space. Another factor you will have to deal with is that it is impossible to add railroads or streams to existing points without an associated square containing the same motif.

An alternative is to leave this side empty, thus creating a starting point for a railroad or a stream. All other terrain types can be added at will, allowing you to create very beautiful landscapes. As a result, individual types do not need to follow each other. However, in order to successfully complete the tasks, it is good to think a little ahead when connecting the boxes. Completing tasks is, at least in my opinion, the alpha and omega of Dorfromantik.

You also place a task token with a different number each time you place it on a task tile. This determines how many squares of that color you need to connect to it to complete the task. For example, if you have a water card with a number five or six, you need to create a long stream. What’s interesting is that you can easily create more points with one stream by connecting another one to it, which requires more volume to complete one order.

But if you are doing a specific task in Dorfromantika, you need to think about not closing the space before you have completed the task, which of course can be achieved by simply playing with how the piece is placed and using more of its potential. The flag points can be thought of as special fields that you can again benefit from. You place tiles until the terrain tiles flip or one of the other end conditions occurs.

Once that happens, it’s time to score. During this, the points for completed tasks, closed areas with flags, and the longest railroads and streams will be added up. In short, there’s a lot to add here. Once you’ve tallied up, you can transfer your success to the campaign sheet, where your progress is presented, and through it you can also open real cards, in the depths of which new components are hidden, which will increase your replayability and may also help you on your way to a higher final rating.

You can also enjoy Dorromantic solo.

The cooperative board game Dorfromantik works very well in my opinion, giving fans of the video game a chance to get immersed and relax a bit while playing. The game is designed for 1-6 players, but I personally enjoyed playing it best when I was playing alone, as there was no distraction during the subsequent setup.

Personally, I would therefore recommend it primarily to non-competitive gamers who want a good break from any competition or clashes while playing on the board. If you belonged to this group, I probably wouldn’t be afraid of this piece. It will definitely give you a refreshing gaming experience.

For providing a copy of Dorfromantik We would like to thank the Czech distributor Tlama Games.
