Playwright Hideo Kojima had to announce that his studio Kojima Productions would remain independent following the release of the PlayStation Studios poster.
Around 1 p.m. Japanese time on Friday, Kojima posted an untitled banner for PlayStation Studios. Rumors have swirled that Kojima and his studio are the giant’s latest acquisition, as Sony has been pushing for several acquisitions recently. If true, that would be great for Kojima, who took over Kojima Productions independently from Konami in 2015.

10 minutes later, Kojima announced that Kojima Productions would remain independent.
“Sorry for the misunderstanding, but KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS was and will be an independent studio,” he wrote on Twitter.
It’s unclear what Kojima meant by posting the PlayStation Studios poster on Twitter. There is a strong relationship between his studio and Sony; In 2015, Sony released Death Stranding, the studio’s only PlayStation 4 version of the game. PlayStation remains the only console available in Death Stranding and Director’s Cut, which released on PS5 in 2019 and PC in 2020.
Kojima Productions is currently working on a new mystery game. In November, the company announced plans to create a film and television division.
