Elden Ring almost included a mechanic for players to steal enemy dreams and turn them into alcohol for use by NPCs.

This was noted by the couple of YouTubers and data miners Sekiro Dubi and Lance McDonald from Software. Around a limited-time test build of an overhauled player game in November 2021, they found a hacked NPC character named Berry Ginko living in Scavenger’s Shack near Castle Stormveil.

During the meeting, the monk would offer the player something to stop Dreambrew if they provided the necessary supplies. To that end, St. John’s Wort, which allows the player to collect Slumber Fog from sleeping enemies marked by a small cloud of mist above their heads. Trina gave an item called Crystal Balls. Delivering both Slumber Fogs to Ginkgo allows the Dreambrew to be used, which can then be given to certain NPCs to open a new dialog.

For example, if a player gave a trader to Dreambrew at the start of the Calais game, they would fall asleep and have nightmares. The following captions describe the nightmare, referencing the raging fire in the process.
