As Blizzard grows as a studio inside and out, one of our driving ideas is to connect with gamers around the world, wherever they are, and make our games as easy to access and access as possible.
We want to give everyone a chance to experience our universes with old friends and make new ones, no matter how they want to play.
Battle.net is home to all of our PC players, and over the years we’ve evolved our platform to keep up with the latest technology and features, as well as the expectations of our community.
As we have evolved, so has the industry – video games are no longer designed for certain communities, as they were when Battle.net was launched over two decades ago, video games are for everyone.

“Our goal at Blizzard is to listen to players and try to meet their expectations in everything we do,” said Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment. “While Battle.net remains a priority for us today and into the future, we understand that players want to play some of our games on Steam and we are launching Overwatch 2 on August 10th. We’re thrilled to be working with Valve to make this happen.”
“The fact that Overwatch 2 will appear on Steam will benefit both gamers and developers,” said Gabe Newell, president of Valve. “Gamers will have another platform to play their favorite games with Steam features, and developers will benefit from the talented Blizzard team helping us develop our features and functionality for Overwatch 2.”

We think Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play team game that is perfect for Blizzard’s debut on this platform. Overwatch 2: Invasion comes with more new gameplay types than ever before in its seven-year history, including the first set of PvE story missions, a new PvP mode with two new maps, and, of course, a new hero. This is a great opportunity for new players to enjoy their first experience in the Overwatch universe.

Overwatch 2’s presence on Steam extends beyond Battle.net, so the amazing community that already has access to the game through Battle.net can play as they always have, without any changes. Players on Steam will still need to connect Overwatch 2 to a Battle.net account, as required on all platforms, enabling cross-platform play and more.
Players using Steam will have access to platform tools while playing Overwatch 2, such as Steam Achievements, the Steam Friends List, and the ability to invite them from within the game. We’re excited to see the response from the Overwatch community, both experienced players and newcomers coming through Steam, and we look forward to hearing from you.
As for the future of Blizzard on Steam, we’ll talk more about other games that may be coming to the platform when the time is right. The Overwatch 2 Steam page is now live and the game can be added to your wishlist! We invite the Overwatch community to warmly welcome new allies playing on Steam on August 10th!
