March Editorial Review – Zing

The gaming season has been going at a furious pace this year, and while we expected it, we were amazed at how it impacted Zing’s overall traffic and readership in March. Both values have reached numbers that we usually reserve only for the wildest (pre-) Christmas months. Of course, we are very grateful to you for this and appreciate that you come to us for your portion of gaming news and interesting things. The main attractions of this month were mainly two games, namely a great remake Resident Evil 4 (our review) and creative, although, unfortunately, controversial Czech game Crime Boss: Rockay City (our review). In addition, you also paid special attention to our articles on Czech for games, especially for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Although April will be a little quieter, it will still be clearly dominated by a trio of very attractive AAA games. As we have already found out from our experience of five hours of playing the full version of the game, Dead Island 2 after all, it seems to be a lot better than perhaps many expect. Probably, they will further improve the quality of the successful first part. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and you can say what you want, but Horizon: Forbidden West is “officially” the most technically and graphically advanced game at the moment, so I’m definitely looking forward to returning to my world in a DLC called Burning shores. In short, we are waiting for another busy gaming month. We look forward to meeting you.

In March, I fought lightsabers, smashed LEGOs, tried to save the planet, and swam across the sea in the body of a dolphin. There were many, and in some cases I have confirmed that sometimes less is more. As we discussed in one of the podcasts: a successful game is not ensured by the maximum time spent, but simply by quality content. And I faced it in all four cases, even if I sometimes had to wade through this cotton wool.

First I tried a canape from the Czech studio Charles Games called Beecarbonize. The card game about the climate crisis is not one-sided and offers many solutions. For example, if you decide to immediately switch to wind and solar energy and cut everything else, your planet will starve to death pretty quickly and you will lose. Back then, Chia was a nice and relaxing invitation to a New Caledonian-inspired world, where I mostly enjoyed traveling through the landscape in the body of various animals or mini-games using the local culture.

I also tried the upcoming racing game LEGO 2K Drive, which will be released in May. Even though I have a driver’s license, I’m not exactly a fan of racing titles. But it was a fun arcade race that rewards you for crashing into trees or fences and also gives you the chance to build your car piece by piece. After all, I too honestly prepared for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which comes out in April, and remembered the previous episode. Perhaps, in no other game from the world of Star Wars have I met a real swordsman – before this one. In addition to Part 2, next month I’ll be keeping a close eye on the Horizon: Forbidden West DLC and Lovecraft’s The Last Case of Benedict Fox.

For me, March was mostly about catching up with February in the form of Hogwarts Legacy and Atomic Heart. I’ve been more than satisfied with both games, and at least I’m planning to return to Hogwarts for a while. In the first half of the month, I returned to the new year of the Monster Energy Supercross series, which did not surprise me too much, but did not disappoint me either. In short, another routine part of the series, which negatively affects mainly the need to release a new part every year.

Looking back to April, it becomes clear that even this month we will not be deprived of big AAA titles and smaller and more interesting projects. Of the bigger games, I’m personally looking forward to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Dead Island 2. As for Star Wars, I’m wondering where the Respawn studio can push the experience over the old Fallen Order, I’m curious with Dead Island if the game will work out. despite seemingly never-ending development and a few changes within the development team itself. At the very least, judging by the latest gameplay footage and impressions from journalists, this may well be one of the most pleasant surprises of this year.

If there is time, I would also like to start the detective adventure game Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened within a month. While I love this series from the Ukrainian studio Frogwares, I haven’t played the original version of this part, so I plan to catch up with the upcoming remake. Among the smaller games, I would like to highlight the stylish metroidvania The Last Case of Benedict Fox, which in many ways resembles the excellent games Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps from Moon Studios.

March was another strong month for a busy 2023. Unfortunately I had a bit less time to play in the pre-release period, but I still managed to get some great stuff. I watched a very interesting spin-off of Bayonetta Origins, which surprised me in many ways, and its amazing soundtrack keeps me coming back to it a few weeks after I finished it. Then I remembered the original Resident Evil 4 to play the highly anticipated remake, which we talked about in more detail in the podcast. I was thrilled with the game and can’t wait to get back into it. I dare say this is an even better remake than the second one and further proof that survival horror is indeed back.

In April, I’m mainly looking forward to the adventure game Sherlock Holmes The Awakened and, of course, another game from Respawn in the form of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. I went through the first Fallen Order twice and really enjoyed it. I’m also interested in learning about Dead Island 2, even though I’ve never played the first one. After a positive Gamescom experience and a promising preview, it looks like it could be a very solid piece.

We can say that I spent most of March mostly with Adobe Premiere. Are you asking why? Especially since we at Grunex have decided to regularly release one-minute videos about news from the world of games and eSports. You can follow this news twice a week on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube channels of REconnect and Grunex. For League of Legends fans, the TryHard.cz channels also create videos called “Champion Stories” and they are also a success. I would also like to thank David Jiranek, Tadeas Peprzh and Vojtech Haik for their cooperation.

In addition to creating this video, I also devoted myself to graphic art. At Zing, it’s mainly about the graphic support of Jan Urbanczyk when publishing the Zing Podcast, as well as creating banners for our social networks and other visual elements… We’ve been active on Instagram for some time now. There are regular news reports. Don’t forget to check us out and give us a “Follow” you can find us there as @zingcz.

At the end of March, I was also part of the production at the Grunex studio, where we broadcast the VCT 2023 – EMEA League – Valorant tournament. These streams will continue in the coming weeks. From a gaming point of view, I also got into my favorite CS:GO. I also didn’t miss the news about Counter Strike 2. Although I was very confused by this upgrade at the beginning, over time I began to like it, and I’m looking forward to it. Yes, I’ll have to wait. Unfortunately, Valve didn’t choose me for the test. What’s in store for me in April? I guess there’s still a lot of work to do on video and graphics and related stuff… And to be honest, I’m looking forward to April.

Another month is over, so it’s time to look over your shoulder. I must say that this month there was no shortage of interesting projects. I was a bit disappointed with the outcome of Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have fun for a while. Subsequently, I went to a meeting with the Czech Beecarbonize, in which I did not really believe at first, but in the final it gave me a very pleasant experience. Crime Boss: Rockay City was a little worse in this regard, which impressed me first of all with excerpts dedicated to the Vietnam War. But time may show that this work has more potential than it offers us now. But in the end, I returned to the gaming classics. That is, to be more precise about the first Deus Ex, which I again played with a kind of tenderness.

April, at least from my point of view, looks drier than the current month. However, it has only a few games that I’m really looking forward to. Probably the most time I spend with Total War: Warhammer 3 Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs. However, I would also like to check out The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story action or Minecraft Legends unique looking strategy which would definitely not be bad at all. However, it remains to be seen what the resulting space and time will be for.
