Apex Legends Season 17 Mixes Up World’s Edge Shard And Adds New Points Of Interest

Apex Legends Season 17: The Arsenal update changes the end of the world with a number of tweaks to the map, including two new POIs, new lighting, and a slight removal of the chasm. Much of the lava will now be traversable as the region cools and becomes less volatile. Additionally, several fan-favorite locations in the FPS game have been moved or replaced to give World’s Edge a new feel for the first time since Season 10.

At a recent press conference attended by PCGamesN, Respawn’s lead map designer Geoff Shaw provided a lot of information about the map update in terms of design.

“We tweaked, tweaked, and balanced a bunch of map components, right down to changing the map and sky lighting,” Shaw said. This time around, World’s End has been treated like Season 14’s Kings Canyon in terms of visual improvements.

World’s End is being healed, which means that the rifts and floating chasms found all over the map are being filled in to allow for faster movement. The remaining lava has increased, allowing you to walk on it at the cost of a small amount of health.

The most notable changes though are the new POI Monument and Stacks. The Monument is a structure that acts as a museum bunker and merges the Shard into the center of the map; you can see it in the header above. The Stacks, on the other hand, are a group of large construction buildings that completely replace Lava City in the southeast.

“We knew we had to do something to shake up the center of the map,” Shaw said of the changes to the popular Fragment hotspot. “It was a long time ago [and] that brings us to the monument… it’s a museum dedicated to the past, present and future of Apex.”

The show describes Monument as a reminder of how far Apex Legends has come since its release. Gameplay-wise, it serves as an underground bunker with a sniper nest on top and a glass ceiling separating its top and bottom halves to provide insight into what’s going on at either end.

By contrast, Stacks is a much more vertical point of interest with interconnecting rooftops. The Fragment construction building is the heart of this new location and the perfect setting for agile legends like Wraith or Octane.

You’ll be able to learn all the ins and outs of World’s Edge changes for yourself when Apex Legends Season 17 launches on May 9. Until then, be sure to check out our Apex Legends tier list to see where your favorites currently rank.
