Despite the April Fools’ revelation, Asus platform ally I’m not kidding. In fact, it could be a serious competitor to the Steam Deck, and now we have more information about the hardware this pocket rocket uses.
At the heart of the Asus ROG Ally specifications is the new AMD Ryzen Z1 APU. This Zen 4 chip has six cores, 12 threads, and is the first chip to feature RDNA 3 integrated graphics, all of which should provide a comfortable performance advantage over the Steam Deck internals.
Here are the ASUS ROG Ally specs:

For those looking for the best gaming CPU in a compact PC, there’s even an enthusiast option, the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme, which ups the ante to eight cores and 16 threads. We doubt you’ll need more than a standard APU for most games, but that option is certainly nice to have.
Combined with everything we already knew about the device, like its 1080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate, the Asus ROG Ally will easily become the most powerful wearable yet. Naturally, high prices are associated with high performance.
Asus ROG says the Ally will cost “less than $1000,” so don’t expect it to be cheap. We should get more information on May 11 during the device’s global launch event, but we don’t expect it to disrupt Steam Deck in any way.
You can expect our Asus ROG Ally review to follow shortly after the release date, so stay tuned!
