Do you love the deep exploration, crafting and building of the 2D world of Terraria? What about colony management, taking care of different colonists with unique traits in Rimworld? What if you could crush them both with elements of the best sandbox games on PC? Enter Farworld Pioneers, a new open-world sci-fi adventure that lets you go it alone or in online co-op with friends.
With all the signs that Terraria development is finally coming to an end with the upcoming Terraria 1.4.5 update, you might be looking for something a little different to fill the gap until Terraria 2 arrives. Farworld Pioneers hails from the developer Igloosoft, which can boast former Rimworld and Starbound developers on its team, and the sandbox RPG just got a release date on Steam and Microsoft Game Pass, with a demo now available.
The game’s release date trailer, shown below, shows off the exploration, building, and combat that Terraria fans will feel instantly familiar with. However, Farworld Pioneers’ distinctive art style makes it stand out immediately, with a slightly more “realistic” story giving way to sci-fi wonder as you explore various planets across the vast expanses of space.
Build magnificent towering structures and decorate them with research centers, advanced technologies and arsenals of weapons. Then recruit the surviving NPCs, each with their own personality and abilities, to help you manage your base and protect it from the strange and wild creatures of the desert. You can assign them to tasks ranging from gathering to crafting, allowing you to focus on the tasks that really matter to you.
You can also build your own ship to explore beyond the stars and reach new planets with unique biomes and bosses. Combat is fast, explosive, and filled with a variety of physics-based weapons, creating a similar feel to the iconic 2D multiplayer shooter Soldier.
Farworld Pioneers has the option to play solo or join online co-op with friends on private servers. Furthermore, you can even access large public multiplayer servers, where the PvP option allows you to decide whether you will coordinate and cooperate with other survivors or fight them to the death while fighting for resources.
Farworld Pioneers launches May 30 on Steam, Game Pass, and PlayStation and Xbox consoles. If you want to give it a try, you can play the demo right now on Steam, where you can also add the game to your wishlist to find and launch it.
