Star Citizen’s multiplayer space sim and detailed shipbuilder will be temporarily released in April as developer Cloud Imperium looks to fix the issues with the recent Star Citizen update 3.18 which brings a lot of new players. The developer says this will help generate more player data that can be used to “identify and fix problems.” [in Star Citizen] faster.”

Released in March, Star Citizen 3.18 aka Last Legacies introduced new locations, an overhaul of the game’s space loading system, and an expanded recovery mechanic. While one of the most ambitious and anticipated updates to Star Citizen, 3.18 also contains a number of bugs and glitches, such as missing objective markers, in-game terminals, and more not working and uncaused stalling. of certain inventory items.

On April 12, Cloud Imperium released a new patch for Star Citizen 3.18.1 to address some of these issues. The developer is now planning a “Free Flight” week from April 13-20 to test the patch and new 3.18 features with as many players as possible.

“If you’re one of those people who said, ‘This is the worst Star Citizen ever,’ then hold on to our beer,” the developer wrote. “Jokes aside, the launch of the Free Fly event is a beneficial step for us as it allows us to test the game infrastructure with a large number of players. More players means more data, which helps us identify and resolve issues faster.

“This is particularly important as we continue to improve the game and want to ensure that it can handle the increased traffic associated with a rapidly growing player base. Separately, we want to give everyone the chance to experience the latest gameplay in Alpha 3.18.

However, Cloud Imperium also says that since “things have been very volatile for us”, April’s Free Fly Week may be cancelled.

“We spent days of automated load testing to simulate a traffic spike on our login service, and our login and authorization fixes match that volume,” the developer explains. “However, if we run into catastrophic problems deploying 3.18.1 to live servers, we may need to abandon the planned Free Fly and focus all our efforts on fixing the problem. Either way, our top priority is keeping you informed and we’ll provide updates as soon as we have new information to share.”
