Seagate has just introduced a new Star Wars Lightsaber SSD collection with interchangeable face plates and they shine just like the real thing. While the new line is aimed at nerdy sci-fi PC gamers (like me), the built-in FireCuda SSD can probably run the Kessel in less than 12 parsecs.
Storage drives have traditionally been a quiet force in PCs, but some of the best gaming SSDs are component peacocks. Even now, you can get M.2 variants with RGB lighting, but most variants only use this feature to illuminate the logo. Fortunately, Seagate understands the challenge when it comes to bringing boring parts to life, and the striking design of its new line of Starwars Lightsaber SSDs reflects that.
Dubbed the “Lightsaber Collection Special Edition,” Seagate’s new FireCude SSD uses RGB lighting and bezels to create a “galaxy atmosphere.” You can dress up the puck as Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Darth Vadar, as each plate has a handle similar to the one in a 3D movie.
Naturally, their focus is more on the RGB lighting from below, as it gives the Jedi weapons a realistic glow. However, the integrated FireCuda drives are also worth mentioning, as they can reach read speeds of up to 7300 MB/s thanks to the power of the dark side PCIe Gen 4 capabilities. Thermal throttling won’t be an issue either, as the SSD has a thick heatsink that sits below the lightsaber graphic.

Capacity-wise, there are two Star Wars Lightsaber SSD options available, but they’ll cost you a few credits. The 1TB model is $184.99, while the roomy 2TB version is $289.99. For context, you can pick up the 1TB Seagate FireCuda 530 on Amazon right now for $119.99, which is perhaps to be expected given the extra sci-fi spice included with the special edition models.
Seagate has given us solid-state Star Wars shenanigans before, as previously released FireCuda drives pay homage to The Mandalorian. Whether you like the sophisticated design the latest offers or the menacing sheen of the new line of lightsabers, we’re very pleased with the company’s cheesy offerings, as they turn a relatively mundane piece into a piece of fandom.
Looking for an excuse to shell out for a Seagate Lightsaber SSD? The system requirements for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor recommend using an SSD, and you’ll need 155GB to visit a galaxy far, far away.
