committed to Minecraft 1.20 update release date? And USA too. The next major content update was announced during Minecraft Live on October 15, 2022 and is now officially titled: Trails and Tales, and the update focuses on the Minecraft community and their stories. Ahead of the Trails and Tales update release date, Mojang Studios revealed all the exciting new features to expect, and we’ve even already had hands-on access to some of the new additions.
Minecraft remains one of the best PC games of the last decade, and fans keep coming back with yearly updates. Based on community, presentation, and creativity, we know the next one will include new Minecraft skins, as well as a new way to customize your uniform with the Minecraft armor ornament. There’s a new crowd of Minecraft camels, along with the winner of the Sniffer vote and, yes, there’s some long-forgotten Minecraft archeology happening. This is all that will happen when the Minecraft 1.20 Trails and Tales release date rolls around.
The Minecraft 1.20 update announcement broke the trend of update announcements from previous years. Still revealed during Minecraft Live, we were told fewer details than in previous years, in part due to previously announced mechanics and additions that never made it to the game, like Minecraft outfits, archeology, and fireflies, which drew backlash from the fans. To make sure that doesn’t happen again, Mojang has only confirmed features this year that are almost ready to go. On the plus side, this means we can test these features much sooner than in previous years, with camels, bamboos, cherry trees, and other experimental features available in Snapshots now.
Trails and Tales Release Date Speculation
There is no official release date for Minecraft update 1.20 yet, but we expect Tales and Trails to release around summer 2023, just like previous updates.. We need to get close as a lot of new features have been revealed, but we are still in the snapshot stage and we will know we are getting close when the preview releases start.
Our own summer release date estimates are based on previous content releases. The last four major updates, with the exception of 1.19, were released in June of the year following its announcement. Version 1.19 was an exception, as it was not a planned update per se, but the second part of the Caves and Cliffs update. With all the new content now revealed and almost ready to go, we don’t think a June 1.20 release date is unreasonable.
Features of Minecraft 1.20 Trails and Tales
New Cherry Blossom Biome
This is the big and final reveal of the massive update to Trails and Tales, the new Cherry Blossom biome. Fans of the game have long requested this new biome, showcased by the cherry blossom trees featured in many of Minecraft’s most popular mods, and it also brings a new type of tree that’s still going strong. Additionally, Update 1.20 introduces not one, but two new sets of trees, including a new one of bamboo (read on for more details). This cute biome has no new mobs (yet), but it is home to some sheep, pigs, and bees, and while we don’t know if it’s a new grass block, we really hope it is, you can see in the image above the floor. it’s even covered in gorgeous pink cherry blossom petals.
Archeology
It’s true, archeology is on the way. This feature was first announced during Minecraft Live 2020 as part of the Caves and Rocks update and then cancelled, or so we thought. In a surprise announcement on February 10, 2023, Mojang Studios revealed that they are still working on Minecraft Archeology and that it will be part of the 1.20 update. At first, the archaeological sites will be limited to the area around the desert temples, but they will expand. So if you find yourself in one of the few structures in the desert, start digging, keeping an eye out for the suspicious new block of sand that contains mysterious ancient secrets.
bamboo blocks and rafts
Of course, a new Minecraft update should come with new blocks; after all, blocks are literally what make sandbox games what they are. In the Minecraft Trails and Tales update, these new blocks are made of bamboo, which falls somewhere between the family of wooden blocks and bamboo itself.
This new block is excellent for several reasons. First, it puts another use for the fast-growing bamboo, which until now has only been used to feed pandas and build scaffolding. The bamboo block can be recycled into most of the same items as wood, such as stairs, doors, flagstones, and fences, and even comes with its own unique bamboo mosaic option. However, you cannot make a bamboo boat. Technically. A new raft replaces a boat if it’s made of bamboo and works exactly the same, it just looks a little cooler as you sail away from your deserted island or jungle-style base.
camels
We already knew that a new mob was coming to Minecraft soon, and the annual mob vote would be back for another year. However, it has been confirmed that the winner, the tracker, will be joined by another new creature, the camel, in a future update.
Adding to the ever-growing list of Minecraft mobs, the camel not only adds something new to the often overlooked desert biome, but also provides a flexible new way to move around the world. This cute new monster can be ridden by two players at the same time, features a useful new racing mechanic, and has its own charming and realistic animation.

Speaking of new items and types of wood, another wood item is coming soon, useful for builders and redstoneers. The rotated library is arguably one of the most interesting and exciting blocks to add to Minecraft in recent times thanks to its game-changing implications.
The rotated bookcase is a bookcase that you can interact with, it’s a step up from the existing bookcase that can be decorative and useful when creating recipes, but doesn’t really function as a bookcase. Now you can write notes and stories in a book and store them safely on a chiseled shelf. Keep your precious enchanted books safe and sound in the chiseled bookcase. Even create hidden doors with a chiseled bookcase. Yes, the new block mechanic triggers a redstone signal when a book is placed or removed, so your castle’s secret dungeon rooms can become a reality. Oh, and if you have a spare, its sleek new wood design makes for a great floor.

With the addition of a new type of bamboo “wood” and a chiseled shelf, another new recipe for woodcraft has emerged, making the most of each type of wood. For some time now, we have been able to create posters that can be placed on the floor or lean against a wall. Creative players use them not only to tell stories or send messages to other players, but also in constructions such as chairs or beds. In version 1.20 we will see the addition of the hanging sign, a nice option to make shops, streets or other buildings in Minecraft even more realistic. Art gamers have already started finding other ways to use hanging panels.
New characters and skins.
The few people who saw the new faces in recent Minecraft trailers received some good news when it was announced that they would be added to Minecraft canon. These new characters are now official Minecraft skins as Ario, Efe, Kai, Makena, Nur, Sunny, and Zuri join the famous Steve and Alex. You can already change the look of one of seven different new characters in the Bedrock Edition Dressing Room and Java Edition Launcher, so make sure you know how to change your Minecraft skin.

If you are happy with your minecraft skin, you can further customize your minecraft style by making your landing even smoother with the new minecraft armor pads. Cutting armor is not easy so it adds a new exciting experience to the survival game as you have to search everywhere for the new forging patterns you need to add fancy details to your armor. Oh, and that’s before you collect enough precious gems or ingots needed for coverage.
